USITT Translucent Painting Workshop

At the USITT Translucent Painting Professional Development Workshop, teachers Rachel Keebler, Jamie Clausius, and Karen Maness offered three projects from transformations (new elements appear when the painting is backlit) to enhancements (painting of a light source illuminates) to a time of day change (transformation from day to night). Here is an inspirational image of a double-sided translucent backdrop designed by Szu-Feng Chen at UT Austin for the play HOLES. The front view is shown during the painting process, the second image reveals the intense colors painted on the back using Rosco Supersats.
